Grand Haven Primary School
We have the establishment of The Grand Haven Orphanage Primary School which has acted as a refuge to 150 Vulnerable and Orphan Children. The Orphanage School system has 375 pupils in general. All of the orphans are lucky to have an old grandmother to look after them within the village. The Orphanage School entirely depends on the love, kindness, support and willingness of people like you and volunteers like us. The primary vision of Rescue Africa Uganda is to uplift and boost Education standards in the Kanungu district through support of orphans, rehabilitation of street children, Education sponsorship, widowers and widows’ livelihood enhancement among the Batwa community. This program supports the creation and development of infrastructure and needed items for orphans homes, schools, books, and food. It was started by Pastor Manase Twinamatsiko a Ugandan Christian Minister in 2009. Rescue Africa’s goal is to extend a helping hand, through availing life changing opportunities that purpose skill acquisition to promote, protect and stabilize the livelihoods of the grass root needy and poor Ugandans living in and around the Bwindi Community, though focus on education, women uplift, health and social support for self-sustenance. Grand Haven School started with a vision to give education to orphans and poor children whose parents died of HIV/AIDS and other natural diseases. The school runs from Kindergarten to grade 7. We realized the need for a school because of the increasing number of orphans and needy children in this community, we thought that the only way we could help these children is to give them education in a way to shape their future.Whenever education promotes children’s dignity- their innate belief that they have a place in the world and a contribution to make to it- a new generation of young people can play an active tole in creating healthier families, stronger We desire to raise these children in a Christian environment. These children are psychologically traumatized who need to be rehabilitated in the society. Our next phase is to construct housing units/dormitories that will accommodate children. We therefore seek for your philanthropic support and prayer to do what we could to make Grand Haven School a better place to live
Bwindi Heritage High School
Bwindi Heritage High School is a home to 320 Students. Some of these students are orphans but who are also lucky to have an old grandmother to look after within the village. Both the High School and the Orphanage entirely depends on the love, kindness, support and willingness of people like you and volunteers like us. Raised in poverty, children sacrifice their futures for lack of school fees, textbooks, uniforms, backpacks, and pencils. Your gift will help train teachers and get a child the tools to fulfill their God-given potential. Make a donation today to not only give children the chance to go to school, but also save their lives and protect their childhoods. There are 3 academic terms in a year, each academic term running for 3months from and then 3 short holidays of 1 months after every academic term. Rescue Africa Uganda spends $24,600 per year on the Education program for the 320 at Bwindi Heritage High School A donation of $ 50 sends 1 Student for 1 term to school. Rescue Africa Uganda is looking after 17 HIV/AIDS Orphans and we have 3 volunteers who help on the daily basis. Our Orphanage is supported through charitable donations from people like you. Making a monthly donation is a fantastic way to support Rescue Africa Uganda and our on-going work. Regular donations mean we can continue providing our services well into the future. By donating just $5, $10 or $20 a month, or whatever you can afford, you can make a huge difference to the lives of the orphans.
African Village
African Village/Cultural Heritage Experience: This historical and cultural journey allows you to truly experience the traditional African life style from the ancient society to present. This experience starts with how people firstly lived in tree branches, caves, huts, then in three different grass roofed & muddy thatched,temporally houses, one in its generation, then up to date where Africans are now living in permanent house structures. Mind that each generation used its costumes, utensils, tools and dressing styles. Rescue Africa Village Museum and Experience is a leading recreational complex comprising of the captivating & one of the best museum South West of Uganda. It is a traditional restaurant, luxurious & a spacious site located just a few meters from the Western gate of the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Forest. Come and enjoy the story and folk tale (Skit) of the first African Royal Kingdom and its downfall,then to presidency. You will enjoy how Africans used to cook using underground local steam fire. Don’t miss iron smelting. This method shows the melting of iron-ore into hot melted iron. Then cool it for some hours, there after taken to the local material manufacturers (Black smithers) for spears, knives, arrows, hoes, Axes, etc. Rescue Africa Village Museum and Experience comprises the cultural village houses the traditional huts for cattle “Bariisa” and Crop Farmers “Abahiingi” This African village also boasts of a spacious Amphitheater and a venue for bonfires and story telling It is the ultimate destination for lovers of history, art, culture and comfort. Women’s Skills Centers
he Bwindi Community Women’s Skills Center was set up to support women struggling with poverty, HIV and domestic violence. Over 60 women are currently engaged in the scheme in more than 10 different types of business initiative, from weaving craft basket, trays and costumes, selling of second hand clothes, to restaurants, to tailor-made dresses and money transfer businesses. The women engaged in this scheme are focused on covering the basics – supplies for home and ensuring their children receive an education. But if they have the chance, they don’t stop there. They are continuing to invest and grow their skills and ideas. They are simply an inspiration. Rescue Africa Uganda Bwindi Community Women’s Skills Center was set up by Pastor Manase with the goal of empowering the women of Uganda with social and economic skills. Alongside the Grants and Donors, the organization intends to start offering microfinance to budding businesswomen looking to create and build on their own entrepreneurial ideas. Lovely Women Art to Dance the Kiga Strokes The Kiga dance, local to Buhoma is one of the key dances of the region’s Bakiga tribe. We welcome you to join us and learn – you even get to wear traditional dress. The Kiga dance is a celebratory dance demonstrating happiness. The dancing of the Bakiga tribe is known for its show of strength with stamping aplenty! It is a huge amount of fun and great exercise all in the stunning setting of the Bwindi Impenetrable forest, home to Uganda’s mountain gorillas. Duration: 1 hour Includes: Coffee/tea break in the beautiful new site, with home made doughnuts and cinnamon bread made onsite using a local recipe (we will even share the recipe! Relax and weave with the women We welcome you to work with expert members of the Nkwenda-Buhoma community to weave baskets from grass collected from the hills of Bwindi Impenetrable forest. Seated with you on the mat, the women will get you started showing you the skills needed to weave. Once you are confident, you are then free to create your very own African souvenir, which you can then take home. This relaxing activity gives you time to sit and interact with local Ugandan women within their own community, nestled among the misty hills of Bwindi, home to Uganda’s mountain gorillas. DURATION: 2-3 Hours (This activity fits perfectly around your gorilla trekking plans) INCLUDES: Tea/coffee break with home-made doughnuts and cinnamon bread in the beautiful new restaurant Your own hand made souvenir to take home Proposal to Empowering women in Bwindi Community We hope that the Rescue Africa Uganda Women’s Skills Center Credit and Savings Society, a Woman microfinance scheme will create a real life transformation among the women in the Bwindi Buhoma community. Women who are perhaps without a job at all or employed to dig fields all day every day to earn a tiny wage will now be getting the chance to do more skilled work for better money. Their fundamental goals will be to help cover the basic cost of living; the ability to buy food, salt, soap and clothing and critically to be able to educate their children. Those engaging in the scheme will gain new skills, both business and social, gained from engaging with suppliers and customers and with the management team of Rescue Africa Uganda. They will improve their day to day quality of life and as a result will be happier, more productive and active members of an increasingly thriving community. Ways of Supporting us While loan interest will be charged, the scheme will be increasing in popularity and replenishing of funds will be the ongoing challenge. We will are continually look at ways to ensure the funding does not run out. Rescue Fund
Mountain Gorillas Rescue Fund: Gorillas are among our closest living relatives yet they risk being lost forever. See how Rescue Gorilla Fund is playing a role in protecting these critically endangered species. Our grassroots projects are keeping gorillas safe from poaching and habitat loss. We also work with local communities to ensure humans and gorillas can live peacefully side-by-side for generations to come. Gorillas are now on the brink of extinction. We have often donated to help fund ranger patrols to keep gorillas safe from poachers’ snares and go towards funding our frontline conservation and development projects Gorillas are our closest cousins. They share 95-99% of their DNA with humans. But all four sub-species of gorilla are now classed as Critically Endangered and at risk of being lost forever.
Bwindi Nature Walking Safaris
Walking with us is a perfect way to spend a couple of spare hours around your gorilla trekking plans or if you are not trekking why not spend more time with us and learn about the indigenous Batwa (pygmies) culture as you pay them a simple but full of fun visit. DURATION: 3 Hours FEE: $25 This is a fabulous walk in nature that brings us to a state of being calm, peaceful by giving the green light to our over galvanized modern minds a chance to rest. Bwindi Nature walking Safari reduces our stress, it keeps us away from depression, and it helps us to relax. Sparing sometime in the natural world of Bwindi forest slows us down and makes us feel at ease. Forest walks can be very essential as an additional therapy for those with high levels of stress.
